Buyers Guide to Strimmers and Brushcutters
This section is broken down into three categories - grass trimmers, strimmers and brushcutters. These categories are only a general guide as some manufacturers refer to their small-engined strimmers as brushcutters. If you need further advice, please telephone us on 01902 864753.
Grass Trimmers
Grass Trimmers are designed for small domestic gardens, ideal for trimming along fences and awkward areas where the lawn mower cannot reach. There are usually battery or electrically powered .
Strimmers.
Strimmers are generally petrol machines with a cc rating of between 18 and 22cc, sometimes with a curved drive shaft and sometimes a straight shaft. Strimmers are usually used for lightweight domestic use, using the nylon line head to cut the grass. However some straight shaft strimmers have been designed to use a grass knife blade. Most strimmers come with a single strap shoulder harness. We offer strimmers from Stihl, and Hitachi.
Brushcutters
Brushcutters are a heavier duty version of the above with engines sizes ranging from 24 - 45cc. The drive shaft will be stronger and can have either the bike(or cowhorn) handle or the Loop handle.arrangement and often come with a full harness. All the brushcutters we offer from Stihl, Kawasaki, Honda and Mitox and Hitachi can be used for semi-professional use with a number of blade attachments available.
Combi System
You may also like to consider the flexibility offered by Stihl and Hitachi in their Combi Systems. The basic priniciple is that you buy a power unit and the attachment(s) to suit your needs. These vary from a brushcutter, hedgetrimmer, pruner, edger, strimmer, soil cultivator and power sweep. Although the initial purchase might be a little more expensive, the benefits will come as you add more attachments.
Safety First
We would always advise the use of some form of protection when using any of the more powerful machines. We sell a range of safety clothing from both Stihl and Husqvarna and a more detailed guide can be found in the section Safety Clothing. As with all machinery it is very important to read the manufacturers instructions in full before commencing any operation with your strimmer or brushcutter..
